This policy explains what personal data Choosy collects, why, and your rights. We are committed to compliance with the India DPDP Act 2023, GDPR (EEA/UK), and applicable data protection laws in South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
2 Age Requirement
Choosy is strictly for users 18 years or older. We collect your date of birth at sign-up to verify this. Accounts found to belong to minors are immediately deleted.
3 Data We Collect
- Identity: Name, date of birth, age
- Contact: Email address
- Profile: Gender, photos, bio, job title, company, height, relationship intent, relationship type, prompts, interests, languages
- Lifestyle: Drinking, smoking, workout, religion, parenting status, education, diet, pets
- Personality: Love language, communication style
- Location: Approximate city and GPS coordinates — updated on each app open to show nearby profiles
- Device: Push notification token; device identifier and IP address for security and to prevent misuse by banned accounts
- Usage: Swipe actions, matches, messages, last active timestamp
We do not collect payment details. Purchases are handled by Google Play; we receive only a subscription status confirmation.
4 How We Use Your Data
- Matching: Location, age, gender, and preferences suggest compatible nearby profiles.
- Account & authentication: Email and profile data enable sign-in and support.
- Push notifications: Your notification token delivers alerts for likes, matches, and messages.
- Photo moderation: Photos are reviewed by admins before display.
- Safety: Swipe history, reports, device identifiers, and IP addresses detect and prevent abuse.
- Service improvement: Aggregate, anonymised usage patterns improve the App. No individual profiling for advertising.
5 Legal Basis (GDPR — EEA & UK)
- Contract: Name, email, location, and profile data are necessary to provide the service.
- Consent: Precise GPS location and profile photos. Withdraw anytime by deleting your account.
- Explicit consent: Religion and health-related lifestyle fields (drinking, smoking, workout) are processed only if you choose to enter them. All are optional.
- Legitimate interests: Fraud detection, abuse prevention, and anonymised analytics — balanced against your rights.
6 Where Your Data Is Stored
- Profile & account data: Stored on secure cloud servers.
- Photos: Stored in secure cloud object storage.
- Push tokens: Stored on our servers; delivery handled by a third-party notification service.
Data may be processed on servers outside your country of residence, including in the United States. For EEA/UK users, transfers are safeguarded by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). For other regions, we ensure equivalent protections are in place.
7 Sharing Your Data
We never sell your data. We share it only with:
- Cloud infrastructure providers who host our servers and deliver notifications, solely to operate the App — bound by data processing agreements.
- Law enforcement or regulators when required by applicable law.
Your public profile (name, age, photos, bio, lifestyle fields) is visible to other logged-in users. Your email and date of birth are never shown to other users.
8 Data Retention
- Active accounts: Retained while your account is active.
- Inactive accounts: Hidden from swipe decks after 14 days of inactivity; permanently deleted after 6 months.
- Deleted accounts: All personal data deleted promptly. Anonymised aggregate data may be retained.
9 Your Rights
Regardless of location, you have the right to:
- Access & portability: Export all your data in-app via Settings → Download My Data.
- Correction: Update your data via the Edit Profile screen.
- Erasure: Delete your account and all data via Settings → Delete Account.
- Withdraw consent: Delete your account at any time. Withdrawal does not affect prior lawful processing.
- Grievance: Contact us at support@gochoosy.app. We respond within 72 hours.
EEA/UK (GDPR) additional rights: Restriction of processing, objection to legitimate-interest processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority (e.g. ICO in the UK).
India (DPDP Act 2023): Right to access, correct, and erase personal data; right to grieve through our contact above or the Data Protection Board of India.
South Korea (PIPA), Singapore (PDPA), Thailand (PDPA), Indonesia (PDP Law), Malaysia (PDPA), Philippines (DPA 2012): We honour access, correction, and deletion rights under all applicable local laws. Contact us to exercise any right.
10 Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and restricted admin access. No internet transmission is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11 Cookies & Tracking
The Choosy app does not use cookies. This website (gochoosy.app) contains no tracking cookies or analytics scripts.
12 Changes to This Policy
Material changes will be notified via push notification or in-app notice. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
13 Governing Law
This policy is primarily governed by the laws of India, including the DPDP Act 2023 and the IT Act 2000. GDPR applies additionally for EEA/UK users. Where mandatory local data protection laws in your country provide greater protections, those laws prevail.
