Choosy ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Choosy dating application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and other applicable Indian laws.

By creating an account and using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

1. Who We Are

2. Age Requirement

The App is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We collect your date of birth during sign-up to verify this. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will immediately delete their account and all associated data.

3. Data We Collect

When you create and use your Choosy account, we collect:

Identity data: Full name, date of birth, age
Contact data: Email address
Profile data: Gender, profile photos, bio, job title, company, height, lifestyle preferences (drinking, smoking, workout habits, religion, parenting status, education), relationship intent
Location data: Approximate city/area and GPS coordinates (used to show nearby profiles; updated each time you open the App)
Device data: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for push notifications
Usage data: Swipe actions (like / pass), matches, messages, last active timestamp

We do not collect payment card details. Subscriptions are processed entirely by Google Play; we receive only a confirmation of the subscription status, not your payment information. Choosy Premium is a 30-day subscription with no auto-renewal.

4. How We Use Your Data

Matching: Your location, gender, and preferences are used to suggest compatible profiles nearby.
Account management: Your email and profile data enable account creation, authentication, and support.
Push notifications: Your FCM token is used to send you alerts for new likes, matches, and messages.
Photo moderation: Profile photos are reviewed by our admins before being approved for display.
Safety: Swipe history and reports help us detect and remove abusive accounts.
Service improvement: Aggregate, anonymised usage patterns help us improve the App.

5. Where Your Data Is Stored

Profile & account data: Stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL database, hosted on AWS infrastructure).
Photos: Stored in Cloudflare R2 (object storage) and served via Cloudflare's CDN at photos.gochoosy.app.
Push tokens (FCM): Stored in Supabase; delivery is handled by Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging infrastructure.

Data may be processed on servers outside India (United States). By using the App, you consent to this transfer. We ensure that our service providers maintain appropriate security standards.

6. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

We share your data only with:

Infrastructure providers (Supabase, Cloudflare, Google Firebase) solely to operate the App — they are bound by their own privacy policies.
Law enforcement or regulators when required by applicable law.

Your public profile (name, age, photos, bio, lifestyle fields) is visible to other logged-in users of the App. Your email address and date of birth are never shown to other users.

7. Data Retention

Active accounts: Data is retained for as long as your account is active.
Inactive accounts: Accounts with no activity for more than 14 days are hidden from other users' swipe decks. Accounts inactive for more than 6 months are automatically and permanently deleted, including all messages, matches, and photos.
Deleted accounts: Upon account deletion (by you or due to inactivity), all personal data is deleted within a reasonable period. Aggregate, anonymised analytics may be retained indefinitely.

8. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

Access: Request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete data via the Edit Profile screen in the App.
Erasure: Delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Delete Account in the App.
Grievance redressal: Lodge a complaint with us at support@gochoosy.app. We will respond within 72 hours.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), row-level security policies on the database, and restricted admin access. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Cookies and Tracking

The Choosy mobile app does not use cookies. This website (gochoosy.app) does not use tracking cookies or analytics scripts.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified via a push notification or an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of courts in India.
